Nuclear War Blues

by Von Doba

/

about

A modern recording at last of the first song I ever wrote: from the Reagan era. That dates me, but the subject, sadly, is still relevant, pertinent and fresh.

lyrics

NUCLEAR WAR BLUES

Had catfish fryin’ in the frying pan
I sat a wondering upon the ugly fate of man
It’s my belief we’re gonna die in a nuclear war

Nuclear proliferation’s quite assured
Radiation sickness ain’t a thing that can be cured
Some looney madman gets a hold of the bomb
He’s gonna use it for sure

An accidental detonation, well maybe
Starts a genr’l launch of missiles
From both land and sea
It’s such a marvel and a wonder
Of power and technology

I’ll say the fusion bomb’s my preference
It’s much faster you see
Them little fission bombs ain’t good enough
Fer you and me
A megaton-grade bomb at ground zero
—O Lord let it be

As I sat a ponderin’ the fate of man
I realized I had forgotten ‘bout my frying pan
I reached down and grabbed my charred catfish
And wound up burnin’ my hand

O it’s a pity there ain’t no one we can sue
For the ultimate destruction that will follow through
From the general unleashing
Of the Nuclear War Blues
Them fire and brimstone Nuclear Wartime Blues
